BIS SIGNS MOU WITH THAILAND

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the national standards body of India today signed a Memorandum of understanding with its Thai counterpart, Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) for technical cooperation in the fields of Standardization, conformity assessment and training.
The MOU was signed by Ms Alka Sirohi, Director General, BIS and Mr Pairoj Sanyadechakul, Secretary General, TISI for BIS and TISI, respectively.The signing of the MOU was witnessed by Sh Sharad Pawar, the Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Mr Krik-krai Jirapaet, Minister of Commerce of Thailand, Mr. Y.S. Bhave, Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, Mr. Chirasak Thanesnant, the Ambassador of Thailand in India and other senior officials of the Governments of India and Thailand.
The MOU envisages exchange of information , documents and personnel between the two National Standards Bodies in the fields of standardization, product certification , management system certification, testing, technical information and training. Signing of the MOU is expected to facilitate the trade between the two countries. It is also expected to further the cooperation between the two organizations at international forums like International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
MOU is also expected to facilitate the signing of a Mutual Recognition Agreement between BIS and TISI which would benefit the manufacturers in both the countries as this would help in removing the repetitive testing and inspection for the exporters thereby boosting the trade between the two countries.
